Record year for Tyrol Mountain Rescue: over 4,000 missions in 2025
20.01.2026
Volunteer rescuers handle over 4,000 missions for the first time – an increase of 550 missions compared to the previous year.
New record for number of operations
In 2025, Bergrettung Tirol (Mountain Rescue Tyrol) set a new record with a total of 4,019 operations. For the first time, the 4,000 mark was exceeded, representing an increase of 550 operations compared to the previous year. The Tyrol control centre alerted 2,793 operations, and the emergency services also completed 1,226 operations in Tyrolean ski resorts.
Wide range of applications and weather dependency
The operations were spread across ski slopes (31%), open terrain (12%) and hiking trails (11%). Of these, 30% of patients were skiing, 24% were hiking and 7% were mountain biking. Particularly fine weather during the summer months and icy slope conditions in winter led to a high frequency of use.
Deployment statistics 2025: Regions and origin of patients
Most operations were recorded in the district of Kitzbühel (28%), followed by the districts of Reutte (15%) and Imst (10%). Furthermore, 58% of the people treated by Mountain Rescue Tyrol came from Germany. Austrian patients accounted for 21%, while the Netherlands came in third place with 7%.
Great commitment from volunteers
Mountain rescue in Tyrol relies on 4,161 volunteer rescuers who are on call around the clock. Their commitment is the backbone of alpine safety in Tyrol, as regional director Ekkehard Wimmer emphasises.
