B.I.G.: The passage into the impossible
In the enormous Hanshelleren cave in Norway, Jakob Schubert battles gravity, pain, and himself. After countless attempts, he finally achieves what was previously considered unthinkable with the route “B.I.G.” The entire climbing scene follows his ascent via livestream.
Bigger, steeper, more intense – “B.I.G.” lives up to its name. The approximately 50-meter-long route, developed by climbing greats Jakob Schubert from Austria and Adam Ondra from Czechia, is one of the most challenging sport climbing routes in the world with a proposed difficulty rating of 9c. After six weeks of intensive work, countless attempts and enormous mental and physical challenges, the multiple world champion and Olympic medalist from Innsbruck achieved the seemingly impossible: in September 2023, Jakob Schubert made climbing history with the first ascent of this line in Flatanger, Norway.
The international climbing community followed the struggle between failure and triumph live. As part of the Alpine Fair, the Tyrolean takes the audience on his personal journey: from his first attempts in the imposing cave, through setbacks and doubts, to the magical moment of the ascent. With authentic insights into the mental and physical preparation for one of the most difficult routes in the world, Schubert's film “B.I.G. – A World First” takes viewers into the fascinating world of modern sport climbing. Accompanied by impressive film footage, he conveys what it means to climb at the limits of what is possible with unwavering will, passion, and a fascination for rock.
